We are all creatures of habit. We sleep on the same side of the bed. We buy the same brands of food and toiletries despite the many to choose from. We follow the same streets to and from home even when we have different options. But how did we get here? At some point in life, these habits were choices we made.
Did you consciously choose which side of the bed you sleep on or did you just fall into it by default?
Did you actually decide you like Charmin toilet paper or is it just what your family had growing up so you buy it automatically?
These are simple examples of our past dictating who we are today, but what if we look deeper? What if you woke up today and had no past? Who would you be? If you didn’t have a routine, what would you do first? Do you know what you even want to do when you wake up?
I invite you to explore these questions throughout your days this week. We are at the beginning of the new spring season, and today we are experiencing the new moon in Aries, the first new moon of the astrological year. So much “new” energy is around us. What would you like to take on and create anew?
Take some time to observe how you live each day. Do you give yourself just enough time to get ready and out the door each morning or do you allow yourself time to reflect and be purposeful with a morning ritual that feeds you? Observe your life, your routines, your patterns, even your inner dialogue. Taking the time to become aware of how you are living now is the first step in choosing how you want to live your life. You may discover that many of your choices are indeed in alignment with who you truly are or you may suddenly see that you are following patterns that no longer “fit” you.
With this new awareness, you are empowered to make choices that do fit who you are now.
